AMPS WINE TOAST A NEW QUAFFABLE EXPERIENCE
AMPS WINE – THE WHARF, OUNDLE, NORTHAMPTONSHIRE
Amps Wine in the market town of Oundle, Northamptonshire, had acquired a brand new retail unit within an out of town wharf development. The shop needed to be a complete escape from their existing store and be light, stylish and contempory. The project had to incorporate retail fixtures, flooring, decoration, signage and air-conditioning. The existing wine tasting machine also had to be included within the new shop.
The new smaller store had to stock and visually display over 600 different wines. This had to be delivered within a tight budget and strict guidelines from the council and landlords. In addition the theme had to integrate their corporate colours as well as having a system that was robust and yet visually attractive.
The light wood laminate finish to all shelves highlighted the wine superbly and was offset by the burgundy coloured rear wall, Amp’s corporate colour and a dark wood Karndean flooring. To give the shelves their strength a substantial steel shelf framework was built between and below each shelf; this was finished in a light grey to become slightly invisible against all the laminate and wine bottles.
The bays were left open, so a clear view of all bottles was available throughout the store, and above each bay a chalk board was fitted to allow Amps to write wine headings as required around the store.
The key aspect to the shelf design was the ability for Amps to be able to show details about the wine, pricing, basic description and yet at the same time not hide any of the bottles, or utilise any of the merchandising space.
The result was a simple system, with over 600 lines displayed in a sturdy, easily accessible and simple to browse retail environment. The shop has generated great interest from the local community and has so far exceeded sales from the exiting town store on a weekly basis.
Working closely with Index, they managed to deliver an eye catching and functional design that met the brief, yet adapted to stringent budget constraints
